La Maison de la Verdiטre was opened by the UGIF (General Union of Israelites in France) on May 24, 1943, to accommodate Jewish women and children and was placed under Gestapo control. On October 20, 1943, in the morning, the Gestapo invaded the Verdiטre, arrested all its occupants and sent them to Drancy. From there, they were deported to Auschwitz. They were all killed in Auschwitz, gassed and burned. Renי Tordjman, the youngest child, was one year old. The plaque bears the inscription: ”On October 20, 1943, 30 Jewish children were arrested by the Gestapo with six of their mothers and their director, Alice Salomon. All were murdered in Auschwitz.
